Semakau Intertidal Walk to Raise Funds for New Natural History Museum

You may have read from the papers that the Raffles Museum of Biodiversity Research (RMBR) is raising funds to build a new facility so as to develop it into Singapore’s very own natural history museum.

RMBR, as one of the earliest natural history museums in SEA and the only one in Singapore, is committed to preserving Singapore's biodiversity through research, environmental consultation and public education. RMBR can play a pivotal role in galvanising research and education efforts in biodiversity conservation and environmental awareness in Singapore.

However, a new facility is necessary for the RMBR to fulfil this role on the university, national, regional and international level. Currently, less than one per cent of the museum’s entire collection is on display due to a lack of space. The new museum will serve as a valuable resource for biodiversity research and help generate interest among present and future generations on the vital importance of ecology, conservation and the environment for human survival and development.

To support this national development project, the RMBR Nature Guides will be conducting a special intertidal walk at Pulau Semakau on 19 June 2010, 8am to 2pm, to help raise funds for the new facility. Only 60 places are available.

Cost per participant is S$500, and all profits will go to the fund-raising project.
